Marenna

Is a neapolitan word, whose mean is snack (merenda) in italian language, which in turn deriving from the latin verb “merere”, which means to deserve.
The day labourer (o’ faticatore/ the worker), who was employed by the landowner to hoe the ground or (a purta’ ‘ncuollo/ to take on his shoulders), had to deserve the snack.
The type of relationship was defined as “with expenses or no charge”, depending on the inclusion snack.
