TGCOM24 Furore: on the Amalfi Coast between murals and romantic walks

This charming Borgo Bello dʼItalia invites you to discover the most secluded and secret side of the Tyrrhenian Sea.

30-March-2023

Spring on the Amalfi Coast is resplendent not only with the colors of an extraordinarily lush nature, but also with the artist's colors of the new murals that go to enrich the scenic en plein air review that decorates the houses, walls, and paths of Furore, Borgo Bello d'Italia perched among the vineyards on the rocks that overhang the deep blue sea.

Discovering, step by step, the murals just created by Italian and foreign artists; trekking and walking along extraordinary scenic routes; tasting foods and wines with unique flavors: these are the ingredients of a long weekend or a vacation (restorative for body and spirit) between mountains and sea, discovering the most hidden, authentic, at times still wild corners of the hinterland of the Amalfi Coast, which has in Furore its undisputed pearl.

The murals - They are "walls in search of an author" those of Furore, which have been decorated by well-known Italian and foreign artists since 1983. Today more than 120 works, including paintings and sculptures, make it one of the main and most original Painted Villages in the peninsula. Eight new murals have just been created. Just before the entrance to the town are the colorful and impressive works by two young artists from Avignon, a full 30 m long: "Fragments of Life" by Hugo Sanze and "Furore Rhymes of Love" by Arno Geisseler, a well-known writer known by the name Repy. Not far from the celebrated fjord (among the most iconic and well-known places on the Coast), the intense work dedicated to it by the well-known Ligurian painter Antonella Cota " Il Fiordo di Furore" and on the facade of a house "La Madonna delle cicale" , spanning 4 m in height, by Neapolitan artist Carla Viparelli. Finally, two works of extraordinary vitality by Salerno artist Zhena, true explosions of color that capture and interpret with her unmistakable style the genius loci of Furore, "Vibrations," next to the Town Hall, and "Ways of love" in Contrada della Cicale, at the entrance of the emotional path of the same name dedicated to love, which will be usable at the beginning of the summer and will lead to the discovery - with painted stations and enriched with quotations - of the most romantic, scenic, evocative places and mythological and literary echoes of the 3 districts of the town, San Giacomo, San Michele, Sant'Elia.

Panoramic walks and treks - Spring is the sweetest season to venture into the unspoiled nature of this corner of the Coast. And every walk guarantees unparalleled panoramic views. Perhaps it is because of this-and because of the well-organized and warm welcome in B&Bs, vacation homes, agritourisms, and small family-run hotels-that the phenomenon of trekking has literally exploded in recent years, and in Furore walkers arrive in droves from all corners of the world. Everyone finds a route suited to their needs and abilities, from the relaxing walk along the Avenue of Cupid in the Garden of the Pellerina, to the challenging high-altitude trek in the Lattari Mountains along the now mythical Path of the Gods. Among the most popular trails are the Crow's Nest Trail, the Flowering Agave Trail leading from Punta Sant'Elia to Marina di Praia, and the Abu Tabela da Pino Trail in San Lazzaro di Agerola (along which there is also an equipped climbing wall).

Heroic wines and authentic tastes - In Furore, a must stop is the winery of Marisa Cuomo (the pasionaria of heroic viticulture in these lands) carved out of the rock and visited by wine lovers from all over the world. A setting of extraordinary charm for memorable tastings of excellent wines, which come from the bold terraces on which ancient vines are planted. The perfect accompaniment are the traditional dishes, prepared with zero-kilometer raw materials, the generous fruit of this fertile land and this fishy sea: they can be tasted right in front of the winery, at Hostaria Da Bacco, a historic address on the Coast, frequented by the likes of Rosellini and Anna Magnani, while they were filming the movie "Amore" in the Fjord of Furore. And it is to Magnani that Nannarella's Ferrazuoli are dedicated, flavorful handmade pasta with a delicate sauce made from sweet piennolo tomatoes, which the actress particularly loved.
