Flying from mountain to sea having the pleasure of admiring the landscape thanks to the Zip-line, an aerial route along a steel cable with a special pulley, is what is possible to do at Wrath, a "scattered settlement" on the upper Amalfi Coast so picturesque that it bewitches anyone who approaches it.
However, one needs to know that this tiny municipality, which by its very nature does not have a center or a square but is scattered on high ground, is there, exists, in order to be able to plan a visit and discover that it really is a must-see, in addition to the better-known ones on the Coast. Doing the good of such small and in some respects hidden places, of which there are not a few in our country, presupposes really getting to know them in order to be able to acutely identify those attractive forms that will highlight their peculiarities, making them even more unique and appealing to tourists.
Why the Zip-line in Furore
Furore's Zip-line responds to all this, and deciding to reveal its whys means clearing the field of the idea of being in Gardaland: the thinking of those who wanted it is finer and deeper. And we trace it through an eloquent chat with the man who is its proponent, Eng. Massimo Boccia, from Salerno, who the Amalfi Coast knows it like the back of his hand., because of an assiduous, daily frequentation that began when he was a boy. "I am familiar," he tells us, "with this area, its roads, curves, even potholes! I was a kid when the first signs of the emergence of food and wine tourism on the Coast began to appear, with fishermen going ashore and making the first fritters, transforming their beach shacks into eateries. Beautiful years that if they were there now people would go crazy about them." Engineer Boccia - who specialized in finding solutions for the transportation of people or things, in the most diverse situations, via rope, rails and whatnot - in traveling along the coast, says he paused to observe, at different times of the year, the Furore Gorge, drawing the conclusions that it had all the necessary characteristics to be able to install a Zip-line there.
Meanwhile, the indefatigable then-mayor of Furore, Raffaele Ferraioli, which already so much had been spent on that much-loved little patch of land, to which he did not fail to devote pure writings, philosophical reflections so strong was the bond with his land and the desire to make it stand out in the eyes of the world, he was considering installing another attraction in the small town (which he had already popularized with murals making it a "painted village" as well as having activated the diving championship from great heights) ,in order to bring people from the Riviera upstream.
It is the 2014 when the two wills meet. Ferraioli takes to evaluating Boccia's proposal as an alternative to another project, which was intended to create conditions for more sports practices to be practiced. In the end, the decision matured to proceed with the Zip-line, which was considered more attractive as it was exclusive to the entire Coast (actually on the national territory, because of its route from upstream to sea).
Thus begins a winding, tortuous path to obtaining the various permits that only a strong will can hold. A feeble motivation would already have been a reason to stall.
Engineer Boccia takes full charge of this public interest project by resorting to a finance project, that is, by financing it in its entirety himself. This is the only way he can get the necessary approvals. For his part Ferraioli, in 2017, puts municipal space available, which at that time is used as a sort of depot/landfill, but which proves to be insufficient in square footage. Boccia provides for its implementation by purchasing more than half of the land on which the departure station will be built and leases private property on which he will build the arrival station. In 2019 finally comes inaugurated a first zipline.
What is the view of
Flying down from mountain to sea - a unique condition in Italy - precisely from Furore to Conca dei Marini, at a speed that is neither too high nor too low, only by gravity, means being able to enjoy the view of the landscape that one crosses, from the limestone composition of the territory, moreover, rich in varied vegetation, to the holes in the rock eroded by the water of the Furore stream, until admiring from above, in its completeness, the Fjord of Furore, the only fjord in the Mediterranean, which houses a fishing village inside it. And always, in the background, see the sea merging with the sky.
The significance of that flight
This type of flight, unlike others that are highly adrenaline-pumping because they are based on fear-mongering speed, has beenconceived as liberating operation, albeit brief detachment from reality, from thoughts. "I free myself," the engineer recounts the effects, "I let go for a moment, I lighten up, and it's an unknown that I'm not afraid of, because fear doesn't take over to block me.
And to make this moment even more pleasant, I had the following installed. a second plant parallel to the first (the only facility in Italy with two lines), so that you can fly together with your loved one or friend. Even an entire family with their children (one child goes down with dad and the other with mom) can indulge in this moment that becomes one of sharing.
In 'Marenna on the fly
With the facility completed, after carving out two pitches with seating and a bar to entertain the wait, Boccia and Ferraioli began to reason about further developments. "Why don't we also open a restaurant here? No, a braceria...and then: but let's do sciue sciue, a snack after the flight.
Thus was born the idea of organizing to propose a 'marenna (the snack), not a simple breakfast of bread, ham and mozzarella as a deli would prepare, but stuffed panelle, we might say, overflowing with ancient mouthwatering specialties of furorese cuisine. Shoo shoo sandwich (sandwich with tomato sauce, provolone cheese and basil (vegetarian)
Rich sandwiches, we said, made with pane cafone, the kind with lots of crumbs, baked by the Nonna Peppa Bakery of Agerola, which is only half emptied of the crumb. The other half has the function of retaining sauce and seasonings.
We would have many things to say, only positive, about this project sent in with great determination. We limit ourselves to grasping its freshness, its appropriateness to the context in which it was dropped and, most of all, the great appeal it is capable of exerting and its being within the reach of all.
